Issue 32: The News Chronicle’s Blueprint for Football

12Feb14

Issue 32 of Soccer History is now back from the printers and is in the process of being distributed to subscribers.

The first article offers Part Two of the News Chronicle’s analysis of the state of the English game in the 1959-60. The News Chronicle was a London daily newspaper whose staff at the time included forward thinkers such as Ian Wooldridge and John Camkin before its demise towards the end of 1960. Early in 1960 it produced an extensive analysis of English football and its problems coping with the changes in society which saw the growth of a rock ‘n’ roll culture amongst the young and consumerism and a broadening of the leisure market generally. The article includes details of the News Chronicle’s Blueprint for Football suggesting ways to modernise the game.

Issue 32 of Soccer History Magazine can be obtained by sending a cheque for £4.50 (£5 if you are based outside the UK) to Soccer History Magazine, 26 Saxon Street, Lincoln, LN1 3HN or making a payment through Paypal to paypal@soccer-history.co.uk
