Soccer History Magazine is a quarterly magazine devoted to the history of the world’s greatest game. A typical issue has 56 pages, containing 6 articles, plus book listings and reviews and recent obituaries.

Our focus is the professional game in England,Ireland, Scotland and Wales, although we also feature articles on non-League football and on the history of the game in other countries. The articles are nearly always based on new and original research, and cover a full chronological range from the 1860s, when soccer was first codified, through to the 1970s.

Soccer History first appeared in 2002 and since then it has earned a reputation for quality writing and ground-breaking research. We cover all aspects of the game, not just the 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon when teams meet in combat for points or progression in cup tournaments. Past articles have included the story of indoor football in England (which dates back to at least 1890), the opening of both Hampden Park and the first Wembley Stadium, supporter culture and the origins of many teams ranging from Aston Villa to Hamilton Academical. We are always seeking  new contributors who are looking to see the fruits of their research in print, so if you have an idea for an article please get in touch.
